Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef or Italian sausage
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2–3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 24 oz marinara sauce
  • ½ tsp Italian seasoning (optional)
  • 9–12 no-boil lasagna noodles
  • 8 oz ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella, divided
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan (optional)
  • Fresh basil or red pepper flakes (optional)

Method

  1. Before You Begin:
  2. Prepare and gather your cookware and ingredients before starting. Cooking times and results may vary depending on your stove, skillet size, and ingredient thickness.
  3. Cook the Meat
  4. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook ground beef or sausage about 5–7 minutes, breaking it apart, until fully cooked and no longer pink. Drain excess fat if needed.
  5. Cook Aromatics
  6. Add diced onion and garlic. Cook for about 3–5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the onion softens and the garlic becomes fragrant.
  7. Simmer Sauce
  8. Stir in marinara sauce and Italian seasoning. Reduce heat and simmer 10–15 minutes until slightly thickened.
  9. Start Layering
  10. Spread a thin layer of sauce across the bottom of the skillet. Break noodles as needed and arrange in a single layer.
  11. Add Cheese Layer
  12. Spread half the ricotta over noodles. Sprinkle with a portion of mozzarella and Parmesan if using.
  13. Repeat Layers
  14. Add more sauce, another noodle layer, remaining ricotta, and more mozzarella.
  15. Final Layer
  16. Top with remaining sauce and final mozzarella.
  17. Cook Covered
  18. Cover the skillet and cook over medium-low heat for about 25–30 minutes, or until the noodles are tender when pierced with a fork and the cheese is fully melted. Stirring is not necessary during cooking. Adjust the heat as needed to maintain a gentle simmer and prevent sticking.
  19. Rest and Serve
  20. Remove from heat and let rest 5–10 minutes before serving. Garnish if desired and serve warm.

Notes

  • Simmer sauce first to prevent excess liquid.
  • No-boil noodles absorb sauce gradually for better texture.
  • Let dish rest before serving so layers set.
  • Refrigerate leftovers within 2 hours in an airtight container up to 4 days.
  • Reheat gently until heated through before serving.
