Ingredients
Method
- Before You Begin
- Preheat and prepare your cookware as needed. Cooking times and results may vary depending on your oven, cookware, and ingredients.
- Activate the Yeast
- Add the warm water to a large bowl and stir in the yeast. Let stand for about 5–10 minutes until the mixture becomes foamy, indicating the yeast is active.
- Make the Dough
- Add the flour, olive oil, salt, and optional sugar to the bowl. Mix until a soft dough forms, then knead for about 5–7 minutes until the dough becomes smooth and elastic.
- Let the Dough Rise
- Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let rise for about 45–60 minutes, or until the dough has doubled in size.
- Prepare the Sauce
- Heat olive oil in a small saucepan over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and cook briefly until fragrant. Stir in crushed tomatoes, oregano, salt, and black pepper. Simmer for 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until slightly thickened. Remove from heat.
- Preheat the Oven
- Preheat the oven to 475°F (245°C). If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven while preheating.
- Shape and Assemble the Pizza
- Stretch or roll the dough on a lightly floured surface, leaving the edges slightly thicker. Spread a thin layer of sauce over the dough, sprinkle with mozzarella cheese, and add desired toppings.
- Bake the Pizza
- Bake for about 12–15 minutes until the crust is golden and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Rest and Serve
- Allow the pizza to rest for 2–3 minutes before slicing. Serve warm.
