Ingredients

  • Dough
  • 1⅓ cups warm water (100–110°F / 38–43°C)
  • tsp instant yeast
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 3 tbsp olive oil or melted butter
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • cups all-purpose flour (spooned and leveled)
  • Garlic Butter
  • 5 tbsp melted unsalted butter
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • Optional
  • Grated Parmesan
  • Chopped parsley

Method

  1. Before You Begin
  2. Preheat and prepare your cookware as needed. Cooking times and results may vary depending on your equipment and ingredients.
  3. Mix warm water, yeast, and sugar. Rest about 5 minutes until lightly foamy.
  4. Add oil, salt, garlic powder, and half the flour. Mix briefly.
  5. Add remaining flour and knead 5 minutes until dough is soft and slightly tacky.
  6. Place dough in greased bowl, cover, and let rise 1–2 hours until doubled.
  7. Punch down dough and divide into 16 pieces. Roll each into an 8-inch rope and tie into knots.
  8. Place on lined baking sheet, cover loosely, and let rest 30–45 minutes.
  9. Stir butter, garlic, seasoning, and salt.
  10. Brush knots with butter and bake at 400°F (204°C) for 20–23 minutes until golden and lightly browned.
  11. Brush warm knots with remaining butter. Add optional toppings and serve.

Notes

  • Use water no hotter than 110°F (43°C) when activating yeast.
  • Keep dough slightly tacky; avoid adding excess flour.
  • Bake until knots are fully golden and set in the center.
  • Refrigerate leftovers within 2 hours and store airtight.
  • Reheat until warmed through before serving.
