Before You Begin
Preheat and prepare your cookware as needed. Cooking times and results may vary depending on your equipment and ingredients.
Make Sauce
In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef, breaking it into small pieces, until fully cooked and no longer pink. Drain excess fat if needed. Add the onion and garlic and cook briefly until softened. Stir in the tomatoes, tomato paste, and seasonings, then simmer for about 25–30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens. Cooking time may vary depending on heat level and moisture in the ingredients.
Prepare Filling
In a bowl, gently mix ricotta, Parmesan, 1 cup mozzarella, eggs, and seasoning until combined.
Cook Noodles
If using regular noodles, cook until just al dente according to package directions. Drain and lay flat.
Assemble
Spread a thin layer of sauce in a 9×13-inch baking dish. Layer noodles, ricotta mixture, sauce, and mozzarella. Repeat layers and finish with sauce and remaining mozzarella.
Bake
Cover the dish loosely with foil and bake at 375°F (190°C) for about 45–50 minutes. Remove the foil and continue baking for 15–20 minutes, until the top appears lightly golden and the center is hot and bubbling. Cooking time may vary depending on oven performance.
Check Doneness
Center should reach 165°F (74°C) for safe serving.
Rest
Let rest 10–15 minutes before slicing so layers set.
