Ingredients

  • Ingredients
  • Meat Sauce
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 can (15 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • ½ cup water
  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • Cheese Filling
  • 1 container (15 oz) ricotta cheese
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley or Italian herbs (optional)
  • Layers
  • 12–16 lasagna noodles
  • 4 cups shredded mozzarella cheese (for layering and topping)

Method

  1. Before You Begin
  2. Preheat and prepare your cookware as needed. Cooking times and results may vary depending on your equipment and ingredients.
  3. Make Sauce
  4. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef, breaking it into small pieces, until fully cooked and no longer pink. Drain excess fat if needed. Add the onion and garlic and cook briefly until softened. Stir in the tomatoes, tomato paste, and seasonings, then simmer for about 25–30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens. Cooking time may vary depending on heat level and moisture in the ingredients.
  5. Prepare Filling
  6. In a bowl, gently mix ricotta, Parmesan, 1 cup mozzarella, eggs, and seasoning until combined.
  7. Cook Noodles
  8. If using regular noodles, cook until just al dente according to package directions. Drain and lay flat.
  9. Assemble
  10. Spread a thin layer of sauce in a 9×13-inch baking dish. Layer noodles, ricotta mixture, sauce, and mozzarella. Repeat layers and finish with sauce and remaining mozzarella.
  11. Bake
  12. Cover the dish loosely with foil and bake at 375°F (190°C) for about 45–50 minutes. Remove the foil and continue baking for 15–20 minutes, until the top appears lightly golden and the center is hot and bubbling. Cooking time may vary depending on oven performance.
  13. Check Doneness
  14. Center should reach 165°F (74°C) for safe serving.
  15. Rest
  16. Let rest 10–15 minutes before slicing so layers set.

Notes

  • Measure ingredients accurately for balanced flavor and structure.
  • Simmer the meat sauce until slightly thickened to prevent watery layers.
  • Let the lasagna rest briefly before slicing so the layers set properly.
  • Refrigerate leftovers within 2 hours and store in an airtight container for up to 4 days.
  • Reheat gently in the oven or microwave until heated through, adding a spoonful of sauce if needed to maintain moisture.
