Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20) recommended
  • 8 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled
  • 1 medium onion diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 6 cups potatoes cubed (½-inch pieces)
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup (10.5 oz)
  • 1 can cream of celery soup (10.5 oz)
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (optional)
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce (optional)

Method

  1. Before You Begin
  2. Prepare your cookware as needed. Cooking times and results may vary depending on your equipment and ingredients.
  3. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  4. Cook the ground beef in a skillet over medium heat, breaking it into small pieces, until fully cooked and no longer pink. Cooking time may vary depending on heat level. Drain excess fat.
  5. Add onion and garlic; cook 3–4 minutes until softened.
  6. In a bowl combine beef mixture, bacon, soups, milk, seasonings, and 1½ cups cheese.
  7. Spread potatoes evenly in baking dish.
  8. Spoon beef mixture over potatoes and spread evenly.
  9. Sprinkle remaining cheese and breadcrumbs on top.
  10. Bake for about 45–55 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender when pierced with a fork and the center appears hot and bubbling. For best food safety, the internal temperature should reach 165°F (74°C) when checked in the center. Cooking time may vary depending on oven performance and potato size.
  11. Rest 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Cut potatoes evenly for consistent cooking and drain beef well to prevent excess grease.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
  • Refrigerate within 2 hours of cooking.
  • Reheat portions until heated through before serving.
